The team's fate roulette

Have you ever considered the immense impact that changing a leader has on the team’s work dynamic? This situation, soaked in uncertainty and stress, resembles a bet in roulette where the spin of the wheel of fortune decides the future – win or lose. Each move on this crazy wheel can bring both profits and losses, altering the destiny of the entire team.

The process of recruiting a new manager is like navigating the stages of a complicated game:

“Placing a Bet” The beginning of the search, the recruitment process filled with hope for finding the perfect candidate. “The Croupier Releases the Ball” The decision of the higher management, a choice that introduces new energy into the team. “Seeing the Round’s Results” The first days and weeks of the new leader in action, the moment of truth revealing his skills. “Starting a New Round or Stopping the Game” The final decision on the leader’s future in the organization – will he bring a revolution, or will he be sidelined? In my career, I had the opportunity to meet many inspiring leaders, but I have always considered my father – a surgeon – to be the greatest example. His work, requiring incredible empathy and unwavering ethics, showed me that true leadership is not only about making tough decisions under time pressure but also the ability to support and guide even in the most critical moments.

However, the satisfaction of helping others, impacting patients’ lives, and the opportunity to mentor future generations of doctors is only half the story. The challenges and difficulties faced daily teach humility and highlight the great responsibility that leadership carries.

Unfortunately, not all leaders remember the principle of “primum non nocere” – first, do no harm. A toxic atmosphere, cronyism, and exclusion not only demotivate but also destroy trust within the team. Often, boards, deceived by a one-sided picture of the situation, fail to recognize threats in time, leading to morale erosion and a decrease in productivity.

For a new leader, it is crucial to shape an organizational culture based on openness, innovation, and mutual respect. Building an environment where every team member feels valued is the foundation of a healthy work atmosphere. This task requires not only the ability to manage change but also empathy, patience, and effective communication.

The decision to choose a leader is a significant moment for every organization, carrying long-term consequences. Betting on red or black? This choice can determine the company’s future. It’s important to remember that some talents are irreplaceable, and a wise recruitment decision can bring invaluable benefits to the organization.
